After admission you still need to register as a student. We show the steps for KU Leuven, a university in the city of Leuven, Belgium.

How Registration Works at KU Leuven

Three phases after admission.

Phase 1: Request registration: Log in with the account you made when you applied. Choose to register for the program you were admitted to.
Phase 2: Degree check: The university checks that your old degree is real. If it cannot do this online, bring your original papers to the student records office (Registrar's Office) in Leuven.
Phase 3: Registration done: You get your registration papers, your student login and the bill for your fees (tuition).

For 2026-27 the KU Leuven registration period ended on 16 September 2026. That date has passed. If you register late, ask KU Leuven what to do.

Belgian student visa (D visa) - The long-stay visa for students. You need it to send your registration request.

KU Leuven holds orientation days for new international students.

First semester (autumn term, half a school year): 14 to 20 September 2026, already over.
Second semester (spring term): 1 to 7 February 2027.

In Leuven, if your degree is checked in person, you get your card the same day. If not, you book a time to pick it up.

You pick your courses in your own study plan, called an ISP.

A full-time year is 60 credits (ECTS).

60 credits a year: From mid-March, KU Leuven works out your fee again from the credits in your study plan.
