Keep these in your hand luggage: your passport with the D visa, your enrolment letter and your original diplomas. The D visa is your long-stay study visa (for stays over 90 days).

When To Complete This Checklist

Before you fly: Check your visa dates and pack your papers.

Visa Papers

Passport

Your passport must be valid for at least 12 months (1 year).

Enrolment letter

A paper from your university that says you are signed up or accepted, on the form the visa office asks for.

Health insurance proof

Insurance that pays for any health problem you have in Belgium.

For the Town Hall

Passport photo

If you study in Leuven, take one passport photo, less than 6 months old. You need it to get a paper called Annex 15 (a paper that shows you have told the town hall you live there).

Enrolment letter

Your town hall needs it to give you the A card (your Belgian residence card).

Initial Financial Planning

Documents for Financial Setup

Proof of money for your visa. This can be a blocked account (a bank account that holds your money and pays it out in parts) or a scholarship letter. It can also be an Annex 32 sponsor form (a signed promise from a person who will pay your costs).
Proof you paid the contribution fee to the Belgian Immigration Office.
