Pro Tips:
Keep your passport and your letter of acceptance (the letter from your school) in your hand luggage. Keep your port of entry letter of introduction (the approval letter you show at the airport) there too, not in a checked bag.

Final Pre-Departure Preparation

Use this list in your last two weeks before you fly. It covers what you must carry, what you must tell the officer about and what to check on landing.

Why This Checklist Is Essential

  • The officer will not issue your study permit without the right papers.
  • If you do not tell the officer about cash or food, you may pay a fine or lose the items.

Papers first

Your passport, letter of introduction and letter of acceptance matter most.

Know the rules

Tell the officer about food and large amounts of cash at the border.

Check on landing

Check your study permit before you leave the airport.

A paper from the visa office. The officer uses it to give you your study permit, the paper that lets you study in Canada.

A copy of a valid letter from your school.

Any letters your visa office told you to bring.

If you had a medical exam, bring the result. It must still be valid on the day you enter Canada.
