Career Pathways

Work and Careers

China's rules on work for students and graduates.

Post-Study Work Pathway

While you study

Work-study (a small job the university runs) on campus is allowed. For part-time work or an internship off campus, your university must agree and the exit and entry office adds a note to your residence permit.

After graduation

If you want to stay in China after you graduate, apply for a stay permit (a permit to stay after your course) before your residence permit for study ends.

To work in China

You need a work permit and a residence permit made for workers.

Post-Study Work Rights

Build your career in China

Foreigners who work in China must have a work permit and a residence permit made for workers. Employers may not hire foreigners without them.
