Scholarships to Study in Denmark
Students from India and Pakistan can get Danish Government Scholarships through their university. They can cover tuition, living costs or both. Amounts are in Danish krone (DKK).
Denmark Scholarship Overview
Scholarships in Denmark are few, so apply early and plan your own money too.
How Scholarships Work in Denmark
Danish Government Scholarships are paid by the Danish state and given by each university to the students it picks. They are for students who study a whole degree in Denmark.
Your chance depends mainly on your grades and on applying by the deadline.
Few Places
Why Apply for Scholarships?
- Some pay all your tuition for 2 years.
- Some add a monthly grant for living costs.
- At AU and AAU you need no separate application.

Waiver Only? Show Money Too
Danish Government Scholarships
Danish universities get a limited number of government scholarships each year for strong students from outside the European Union (EU) who study a whole degree in Denmark.
You can get one if you are from outside the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland, study a whole degree, and hold a residence permit for studies. It is not for art schools.
Key Benefits of Denmark Government Scholarships
A full or partial tuition fee waiver.
And/or a grant towards your living costs.
Chosen by each university.

Already Paid Tuition?
At AAU, if you pay tuition and later get a scholarship, your tuition is paid back to you.
Where to Look
- Your university's scholarship page.
- The programme page you are applying to.
- Study in Denmark's scholarship page.
Application Tips
- Apply by the first deadline you see (15 January 2027 for the September 2027 start).
- At AU, do not send extra papers. AU checks you for a scholarship by itself.
- Get your CPR number (your Danish personal ID number) and your NemKonto (the bank account where the state pays you money) early. Then AAU can pay your monthly grant.
Other Scholarships
Some funding comes from outside Danish universities.
How to Improve Your Chances
Most Danish scholarships are given when you apply for admission, so your application is your scholarship application.
Aarhus University (AU) and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) look at scholarship requests only if you apply by 15 January 2027 for the September 2027 start.
A tuition fee waiver means you do not pay the tuition. DTU wants a separate personal statement from you for it. Without it, DTU will not look at your request.
At Aarhus University (AU), a scholarship is tied to one programme and cannot move to another.
Strong grades matter most
The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) looks at your grades, the ranking of your bachelor's university, and research, work, teaching or awards.
Plan for money proof
If you only get a tuition waiver, you still show money for your residence permit: DKK 7,426 for each month of study (the amount SIRI set for 2026).
Common Application Mistakes to Avoid
- Applying after the January deadline.
- Forgetting the separate DTU waiver statement.
- Counting only on a scholarship. There are few. Aalborg University (AAU) gives about 15 a year.
