Language Tests for India University Admissions

A comprehensive guide to language proficiency requirements, accepted tests, and preparation resources for applying to universities in India.

Overview of English Language Requirements for India Universities

English is the teaching language at all Study in India (SII) partner institutes. Each institute decides which English test it accepts and what score it needs.

Who Needs Language Testing?
  • Students whose first language is not English, unless the institute accepts other proof.
Common Exemptions
  • Two Master of Business Administration (MBA) courses at the University of Delhi (DU) accept a letter instead of TOEFL or IELTS. The letter must come from your last university and say you studied in English.
