Pro Tips:

Keep your passport, visa or e-visa (ETA) copy, admission letter and bonafide certificate (a letter from your university that says you study there) in your hand luggage, not in your checked bag.

Final Pre-Departure Preparation

You have your offer and your visa. Use this list to check the last things before you fly.

When To Complete This Checklist

4 days before you fly: Last day to pay the e-visa fee, if you have not paid.
Up to 72 hours before you land: Fill in the e-Arrival card online.
Within 14 days after you land: Register on e-FRRO, the government website for foreigners, if your student visa is valid for more than 180 days.

Originals with you

Keep original papers in your hand luggage.

Health papers

If you are a citizen of, or travel from, a country where yellow fever is found, carry your yellow fever vaccination card when you arrive. Without it you may be kept in quarantine (kept away from other people) for 6 days.

Travel Papers

Passport

It must be valid for at least 6 months when you apply for e-FRRO. Keep at least 2 empty pages.

Visa or e-visa (ETA)

Your student visa, or a printed copy of your e-Student visa (ETA).

Admission letter

From your Indian institution, with your course dates.

SII ID

Your Study in India (SII) ID, a personal number. You need it for e-FRRO too.

Yellow fever card

Only if you come from a country where yellow fever is found.

Check your airline's bag rules and fees before you pack.

Carry-On Essentials

For the visa, show your bank statements for the last 6 months, or a letter of support from a parent with a bank guarantee certificate (a bank paper that promises the money is there).
