Tuition Fees in Indonesia for 2026-27

Fees for international students at Universitas Indonesia (UI), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Fees are in Indonesian rupiah (IDR), and most are per semester (about half a year). A tuition fee is the fee for your classes.

How Fees Work in Indonesia

Fees differ by university and by programme. Courses taught in English for international students often cost more than regular courses.

No fee cuts at ITB

ITB international bachelor's students pay their own fees. You cannot ask ITB to lower the fees.

Tuition per semester

Universities set a fee for each semester. You pay at the start of each one.

One-time development fee

Many international programmes also charge a one-time joining fee, called a development fee. You pay it once, when you register. ITB calls it the Institutional Development Contribution (IPI). UGM calls it the Institutional Development Fee.

Always check the fee table of your own programme. These are fees for the 2026-27 year.

Pay in rupiah

At UGM, all tuition must be paid in Indonesian rupiah (IDR).

A one-time development fee at many international programmes.
The student visa, IDR 6,000,000 for a 1-year stay (see Other Fees).
At ITB, you must study at least one semester at a university in another country. You pay for it yourself.

Payment Methods

Bank transfer
UI's application fee is paid by bank transfer to Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI).
Account at a partner bank
UI suggests you open an account at one of the banks it works with. Without one, you pay academic fees in cash. UI does not accept bank drafts (a cheque issued by a bank).

Pay on time

At ITB, a new student who pays late or registers late loses the seat. ITB gives the dates.
