Registering After You Arrive in Malaysia
In your first weeks you check in at your university and do a medical check at a clinic approved by EMGS (Education Malaysia Global Services, the office that handles Student Passes). Then you get a Student Pass sticker in your passport, and your i-Kad, your student ID card.
What You Register in Malaysia
In Malaysia, your registration runs through your university and EMGS. The Student Pass is the permit that lets you study in Malaysia.
The i-Kad is an ID card for foreign students. It shows that you have a valid Student Pass, so show it when asked.
Do your medical check in your first days. The exact deadline is in the steps below.
Your university
Checks you in and sends your passport for the sticker.
Clinic approved by EMGS
Does your post-arrival medical check.
Immigration Department of Malaysia
Puts the Student Pass sticker in your passport.
Your Registration Steps
Do these in order. Your university helps with each one.
Check in at your university
Go to the international student office with your passport, visa papers and offer letter. You get your student ID and orientation plan.
Medical check
At a clinic approved by EMGS, within 7 working days (Monday to Friday) of arrival. Students at public universities can also use their university's own clinic.
Hand in your passport
Your university takes your passport to the nearest Immigration office. They put the Student Pass sticker in it.
Personal bond
If you have not paid it yet, pay the personal bond to your university. It is Malaysian ringgit (MYR) 750 for students from India and from Pakistan. You get it back when you finish or leave your studies, if you broke no immigration rules.
Get your i-Kad
EMGS issues it after the Student Pass is in your passport. Keep it with you.
| Institution | Deadline | Method | Consequences of Missing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) | In the 3 days before you land | Online arrival card | Everyone who is not from Malaysia must fill it in. |
| Clinic approved by EMGS | Within 7 working days of arrival | Medical check in person | Without it, you cannot get the Student Pass sticker. |
| Ask the clinic to look again | Within 3 days of the result | At the same clinic | Only if you failed the check. |
