After You Arrive

Your Address in Malta

In Malta, your address is linked to your student residence permit (the card that lets you live in Malta as a student). Here is how to register it and what to do when you move. Fees are in euro (EUR).

Registration Basics

Address Registration in Malta

Students from outside the European Union (EU) register their address through their residence permit at Identità (the Maltese government office for residence permits). Your rental contract must be registered with the Housing Authority (the office that registers rental contracts).

Key Deadline

Leases must be registered with the Housing Authority within 30 days. Report any move to Identità.

Who Needs Your Address
Tell these offices when you move.

Identità (Expatriates Unit)

Records your address on your residence permit.

Housing Authority

Registers rental contracts. Your landlord does this.

Your university or college

Update your address in your student records.

Also Update
  • Your bank: So your cards and letters reach you.
  • Your health insurer: So your policy shows your current address.
  • Your employer: If you work part time.
Step-by-Step Guide

How Your Address Is Registered

From signing a lease to having your address on record.

1

Sign a lease (rental contract)

The lease must show the full address, your name as on your passport, and the landlord's full name and ID card number.

2

Lease registered

Your landlord registers the lease with the Housing Authority within 30 days. You get an approval email.

3

Attestation form

Your landlord and a lawyer, notary or legal procurator (legal officials who check and stamp papers) sign the Lease Agreement Attestation Form. It confirms the lease is real.

4

Give the papers to Identità

First time: with your residence permit application. When you move: as a change of address.
