After You Arrive

Address Registration in Türkiye

After you get your residence permit card (the card that lets you live in Türkiye as a student), you register your address at the migration office, the government office for foreigners. You need a registered address to extend your permit.

Registration Basics

How Türkiye records your address

Foreigners register their address at the migration office, not at the population office. Your registered address then shows on e-Devlet, the Turkish government website.

Time limits

Register your address within 20 days after you receive your residence permit card. After a permit extension or a transfer, register within 20 working days (Monday to Friday, not holidays) after your permit is approved.

Who to tell
These offices need your address or your ID number.

Provincial migration office

Registers your address. Go to the one that covers where you live.

Your university

Your international office tells you which migration office to use and helps if you are sent elsewhere.

Tax office

Gives you a tax number. You use it for things like opening a bank account, until you get your foreign ID number.

Your two numbers
  • Tax number: A number from the tax office for money matters. Get it soon after you arrive, online or at a tax office, with your passport. Your name and passport details must be the same as the ones recorded when you entered Türkiye.
  • Foreign ID number: It is the ID number written on your residence permit card. Your university needs it to give you grades, certificates and your degree.
