  • Keep your passport, visa and invitation in your hand luggage
  • Keep proof of money with you at the border

Campus & Administration

  • Register your visa: Some universities ask you to register your visa within 72 hours of arrival. Ask the foreign students' office.

Local Orientation

  • Know your city: Shops and supermarkets usually close by 9 pm. Banks and government services are open. Public transport runs regularly.

First week

Official Registration

  • Temporary residence permit: Apply at the State Migration Service (SMS) or a Center for Administrative Services (a local government service office) no later than 15 working days before your visa or allowed stay ends.
  • Medical check: Some universities give you a health check when you arrive. Bogomolets National Medical University (Bogomolets NMU) does this.

Social & Practical

  • Learn the shelter rules: Students learn what to do during an air raid alarm (a siren that warns of an attack from the air) and where the shelters are. Your university shows you.

Safety and emergencies

Ukraine continues to resist Russia's full-scale invasion. Every university that teaches on campus must have equipped shelters. Many universities from the east and south have moved to safer areas in western Ukraine.
