Application Process

Step-by-Step Application Process

Students from India and Pakistan apply directly to each university or through a provincial centre. Here are the main steps.

1
Choose programs

Check each program's entry rules, especially for three-year degrees.

Key Considerations

  • U of T graduate: a 4-year bachelor's. A 3-year Indian bachelor's needs a master's too.
  • UBC graduate: a 3-year Indian degree can count if it is 1st Class from a college with a NAAC A grade (NAAC is India's college rating body).

Pro Tip

Read your country's entry rules on each university's page.

2
Take an English test

Most universities ask for an English test: IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or Duolingo.

Key Considerations

  • U of T bachelor's: IELTS 6.5 overall, at least 6.0 in each part.
  • U of T graduate: IELTS 7.0 overall, at least 6.5 in each part.

Pro Tip

Check the oldest test date each university accepts.

3
Prepare your papers

Transcripts (your mark sheets), a statement of interest (a short letter on why you want the course) and references (letters from teachers or bosses).

Key Considerations

  • UBC graduate: at least two references.
  • U of T graduate: referees get requests only after you pay.

Pro Tip

Ask referees early.
