Proof of Money for a Chile Student Permit
Chile's immigration office, the National Migration Service (SERMIG), asks you to show how you will pay for your stay. It accepts bank deposits, regular money transfers in your name, a sworn statement (a signed promise) by the person in Chile who pays your costs, or a scholarship certificate.
How to Show Your Money
Show papers that make clear you can pay for your studies and your stay, in one or more of the ways on this page.
How to Plan the Amount
Plan to show enough to cover:
- Your tuition fee for the year (see the tuition fees page).
- Your rent and daily costs for the year (see the living costs page).
Important Notes
- If you have a scholarship, add its certificate, with its length, what it pays and your university.
- Your university may ask for its own proof. Ask your programme.

Rules for All Papers
Format
Every paper must be a PDF file.
Age of papers
Papers from a private company or school: upload within 30 days of the date on them. Papers from a government office: within 60 days, unless the paper says otherwise.
Language
Papers not in Spanish or English need an official translation.
Stamps
Papers issued outside Chile need an apostille (an official stamp from your own country that shows your paper is real), or a check by a Chilean consulate. India: Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Pakistan: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
Good to Know
- •
Permit fee: The student permit fee is USD 78 (US dollars) for citizens of India and USD 122 for citizens of Pakistan. You pay it on the payment site of the Chilean Treasury (TGR) that the SERMIG application sends you to.
- •
Money for your first months: Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC) suggests a personal fund of about CLP 500,000 (Chilean pesos) for each of your first 4 months, about one Chilean monthly minimum wage. This is UC's advice, not a permit rule.
- •
Family members: If family members come with you, sign a sworn statement before a notary that you will pay for their stay.
When You Use These Papers
You show money proof when you first apply and again when you extend your permit.

Timing: When you apply online, from outside Chile
Upload your money proof as PDFs on the SERMIG portal.
