Avoid rental scams
The Ireland rental market has its share of scams targeting international students. To protect yourself:
- Irish police (the Garda) know of more than 230 rental scams in the first 7 months of 2026. People lost over EUR 400,000.
- Be careful of a 'landlord' who is abroad and wants a deposit before you see the place.
- Be careful of a fake host showing one place to many people and taking deposits from all.
- Pay only in the safe ways named in the housing questions above.
