Final Pre-Departure Preparation

You have your place and your study visa for Italy (called type D, the national study visa). Use this list in your last weeks at home.

When To Complete This Checklist

Before you fly: Check every paper and your passport's end date.
Within 8 working days of landing: Hand in your kit at a post office with a "Sportello Amico" desk (the post office desk for this service).

Keep copies

Keep a paper copy and a phone photo of every important paper.

Ask for your permit in time

Within 8 working days of landing, apply for your residence permit for study (permesso di soggiorno). You apply with a paper form pack, called the kit, from the post office.

Papers to carry

Passport with study visa

Check that the visa dates and your name are correct.

University papers

Your admission letter and your pre-enrolment summary from Universitaly (the Italian government website where you pre-enrol for your course).

Study certificates

Original certificates stamped by your state office (attestation) and the foreign ministry (apostille), plus your Declaration of Value (DoV) or a CIMEA statement (an Italian check of your foreign degree).

Health insurance

Your policy. You need a copy for your residence permit.

Photos

Bring a few passport-size photos for your visit to the police headquarters (Questura) about your residence permit.
