Proof of Money for Malta: Visa and Residence Permit
You show money twice: first for your Malta study visa (the national long-stay visa, type D), then for your student residence permit (the card that lets you live in Malta as a student). The two steps use different rules. Money is in euro (EUR).
How Much Money You Must Show
The visa and the residence permit each have their own money rule.
How the Visa Amount Is Worked Out
India checklist:
- Visa (India): 75% of the national minimum wage (the lowest pay allowed by law) for each month of study.
- Plus your tuition and daily costs for the whole study period.
The Two Money Rules
- India visa: you must show money for every month of study, equal to 75% of Malta's national minimum wage (the lowest pay allowed by law), plus all fees and daily costs.
- Pakistan visa: follow the VFS Global checklist for Pakistan. Its money rule is not the India rule.
- Residence permit: show money equal to at least 60% of Malta's national income threshold for your household size (a set yearly amount), for the time you stay.
- Ask your university's international office or Identità (the Maltese government office for residence permits) for the euro amount of the permit threshold for 2026-27.
