How much money must I show?

Morocco's foreign ministry asks you to show that you have enough money to live on for your whole course.

What to plan for

Count your full costs:

  • Tuition: free teaching at public universities, through the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI); set by each private university.
  • Housing and meals: use your university's prices. For example, campus rooms at the Faculty of Governance, Economics and Social Sciences (FGSES) of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) cost MAD 1,900 to MAD 2,500 (Moroccan dirhams) a month in 2026-27.

Important notes

  • The support letter must come from a close relative or guarantor who lives in Morocco.
  • It must be signed and legalised (stamped as real by the authorities).
  • After you arrive, the police ask for a letter from your Moroccan bank that proves you have an account, for your residence card.

Money papers

What goes in the money part of your visa file.

Bank statement
Your proof of money.
  • •

Pakistan: your own bank statement for the last 6 months, the original paper.

  • •

Pakistan: add a bank letter that says you keep money in your account.

Support letter
Required for every student visa.
  • •

From a close relative or guarantor who lives in Morocco.

  • •

Signed, and stamped by the authorities to show it is real (this is called legalised).

  • •

They promise that you have a place to live. They will help you register with the police. They will pay your ticket home if you are sent out of the country.

When you need money papers

Money papers come up twice: for the visa and for the residence card (the card from the police that lets you stay in Morocco for more than 90 days).

Two moments

1Visa file

Timing: Before you travel

Proof of money and the support letter.

2Residence card

Timing: Before your first 90 days in Morocco end

A letter from your Moroccan bank that proves you have an account.

Mistakes to avoid

These stop many visa files.

Missing support letter
The government's student visa list includes it.

Common Error

No support letter from someone in Morocco.

How to Avoid

Ask for it early and have it legalised (stamped as real by the authorities).

Short bank statement
The Moroccan consulate in Karachi asks for 6 months. This is for students from Pakistan only.

Common Error

Pakistan: a short bank history.

How to Avoid

Give 6 months of bank statements and a bank letter that says you keep money in your account.

Tip

Ask your university's international office who can sign your support letter if you have no relative in Morocco.
