Keep your passport, visa, Invitation for Study (a letter from the university, through Ukraine's system, that you need to apply for the visa), insurance and proof of money in your hand luggage. Border guards can ask for them.

When To Complete This Checklist

After your invitation arrives: Book your visa appointment, no earlier than 3 months before you enter Ukraine.
Before you travel: Add your border crossing details to your applicant account.

Safety in Ukraine

Ukraine continues to resist Russia's full-scale invasion. Every university that teaches on campus must have equipped shelters. Students learn what to do during an air raid alarm (a siren that warns of an attack from the air) and where the shelters are.

Carry these

Passport with type D visa (a long-stay visa for study)

Valid at least 3 months after you plan to leave Ukraine.

Invitation for Study

Bring the original or a printed copy. It is valid for 6 months.

Health insurance

Valid for your stay in Ukraine.

School certificate with marks

Originals, legalised (stamped as real by the right offices), with a translation into Ukrainian (or English if Ukrainian is not available) checked and stamped by a notary.

Medical papers

Some universities ask for a health certificate and an HIV test result that shows no HIV. The test must be no older than two months when you arrive.
