Ukraine student visa (type D) requirements

Students from India and Pakistan need a type D visa (a long-stay visa for study). First you get an Invitation for Study (a letter from your university, through Ukraine's system, that you need for the visa). You book online and hand in papers at the visa centre. The Ukrainian embassy decides.

Visa type

Which visa do students need?

Ukraine has three visa types: transit (B), short stay (C) and long stay (D). Degree students use type D.

Long-stay visa (type D) for study
Type D is for people who will stay more than 90 days. You apply for the TRP after you arrive.
D
Duration:Valid for 90 days, many entries

Key Features

Lets you enter Ukraine to study

You can travel in and out while it is valid

Once you are in Ukraine, you get a temporary residence permit (TRP) instead. It is the card that lets you stay longer than 90 days

Eligibility Requirements

  • You hold an Invitation for Study from a Ukrainian university
  • The invitation is registered through the national system of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (MESU)

Restrictions

  • Apply no earlier than 3 months before you plan to enter Ukraine
  • An e-Visa is only for short visits of 30 days, so it does not work for degree study
Choosing the Right Visa Type

If your course is longer than 90 days, you need type D. Then you get a temporary residence permit after you arrive.

Purpose of travel

Show that you are coming to study

A visa can be refused if the reason for your trip or your plan to leave is not clear.

Plan to go home
Bring papers that show you have a family, home or job to return to, and your study plan.
  • The embassy may refuse a visa if nothing shows you will leave Ukraine before the visa ends
Know your course
Your invitation lists your university, course and study type.
  • Know your university, city and course name
  • Check that your invitation names the right course
Prepare for the interview
The Embassy of Ukraine in India may ask for a personal interview.
  • Be ready to say clearly and briefly why you are going
Expect questions at the border
Carry your invitation and proof of money when you travel.
  • Border officers can ask about your study plan and your money
