Students from outside the EU (like India and Pakistan) register with the Migration Department, the Cyprus government office for permits, when they apply for their first residence permit. Your rental contract proves your address.

Aliens' Register

The Aliens' Register is the list of foreigners who live in Cyprus. Your first registration gives you an Alien Registration Certificate (ARC) number.

Four simple steps in your first week.

Rent a room or flat

Sign a rental contract for one year, or for your stay if it is shorter.

Add two witnesses from Cyprus

Two witnesses from Cyprus (Cypriots) sign the contract and give their ID and phone number. Cyprus banks ask for this.

Get it certified

The President of your local Community Council stamps the contract as a true copy (certifies it). Your landlord can tell you where to go.

Apply for your residence permit

Hand in the contract with your other residence permit papers within 7 days of arriving. This registers you in the Aliens' Register.

Papers That Prove Your Address

Bring these to your residence permit appointment.

Proof of address

Rental contract that covers one year, or your whole stay if that is shorter. If you own the home, bring the title deed (the paper that shows who owns it) instead.
Stamped as a true copy by the President of your local Community Council.
Signed by two witnesses from Cyprus (see the witness step).

For your permit application

Passport page with your arrival stamp.
Original entry permit (the blue slip). Your university gives it to you after you arrive.
Health insurance, a letter from your Cyprus bank, and your medical tests done in Cyprus.
