Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need health insurance for my Cyprus residence permit?

Yes. You need a health insurance certificate. It must cover inpatient care (a stay in hospital), outpatient care (you see a doctor and go home) and sending your body home if you die. It must last one year, or your full stay if shorter.

Can I use Cyprus's public health system, the General Healthcare System (GeSY)?

GeSY covers people who live and work in Cyprus, and EU students. As a non-EU student (from outside the European Union, like India and Pakistan), plan on private insurance.

Does my university sell insurance?

Some do. The University of Nicosia (UNIC) charges €175 a year for health and accident insurance.

Do I need it again when I renew?

Yes. At renewal you show private health insurance that covers any illness or accident in the Republic of Cyprus.
