Kinds of Papers

You need papers at three stages: applying, the visa and the residence permit.

Study papers

Certificates, transcripts and translations.

English test

IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or another test UM accepts.

Visa papers

For the D visa (type D), the long-stay visa that lets you enter Malta to study.

Money papers

For the visa and the residence permit.

Study Papers

Your marks and certificates, as copies first and as originals later.

School certificates (for a bachelor's)
  • Upload certified copies (copies stamped by an official as true) of your certificates and transcripts.
  • Add certified English translations if needed.
Degree papers (for a master's)
  • Your bachelor's degree and transcripts.
  • Most master's courses want a minimum degree class or GPA (grade average).
  • UM looks at each master's application one by one.
Originals after you arrive
  • UM checks your passport, certificates, transcripts and English test result when you arrive.
  • You cannot enrol until they are checked.
Personal Papers

Papers about you, besides your marks.

CV
  • A detailed CV showing your studies and work since school.
English test (SELT)
  • A result from an approved English test (SELT) from a test provider UM accepts.
  • Academic IELTS for a bachelor's: 6.0 overall. For a master's: 6.5 overall.
  • Results must be issued within 2 years of your course start.
Money Papers

You show money twice: for the visa, and again for the residence permit.

For the visa
  • India: money for every month of study equal to 75% of Malta's national minimum wage (the lowest pay allowed by law), plus your fees.
  • India: 6 months of bank statements and 3 years of income tax returns.
  • Pakistan: 3 months of bank statements. Follow the VFS Global checklist for Pakistan.
For the residence permit
  • The last 3 months of bank statements.
  • Money equal to at least 60% of Malta's national income threshold for your household size (a set yearly amount), for the time you stay. Ask your university or Identità (the government office for residence permits) for the euro amount.
  • A sponsor's signed letter and ID copy, if someone pays for you.
