Admissions Journey

Your Path to a Norwegian University

Most master's programmes admit students from outside the EU/EEA once a year. The EU/EEA is the EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Students from India and Pakistan are from outside it.

1

Choose programmes

Find English-taught master's programmes and read their entry rules.

2

Check you qualify

A bachelor's degree like a Norwegian one, and good marks in your subject.

3

Prepare papers and test

English test, transcripts, degree, CV (a short paper about your studies and work) and money proof (papers that show you have enough money).

4

Apply online

On each university's website, before its deadline.

5

Get results

You hear back between late February and 5 April. NTNU: around the end of February. UiT: by the end of February. UiO: by 5 April.

6

Say yes and pay

Say yes to your place. Pay your tuition (the fee for your course). Then apply for your study permit, the permit to live in Norway as a student. Many people call it the student visa.

Application Tips

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Even qualified applicants can face rejection due to application errors. Be aware of these common mistakes to increase your chances.

Missing the deadline for papers

Send your papers and English test result by the application deadline. Check each university's rules.

Applying in the wrong group

At the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), choose the right applicant group on the form. A wrong choice can get you rejected.

Old English test

At the University of Oslo (UiO) and NTNU, your English test must not be older than two years on the application deadline.

Missing HEC stamp

If your bachelor's is from Pakistan, send your papers to the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Upload them to NTNU's application website, Søknadsweb, with the HEC stamp by the documents deadline.
