Pro Tips for Choosing an Application System
  • Apply in the category for students from outside the EU/EEA (the EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway). India and Pakistan are outside it. A wrong category can lead to rejection at NTNU.
Application Process

Step-by-Step Application Process

Students from India and Pakistan apply for a master's directly to each university.

1
Choose programmes

Pick programmes that match your bachelor's subject.

Key Considerations

  • At UiO you can apply for up to two programmes.
  • Each programme sets its own entry rules.

Pro Tip

Search English-taught programmes on Study in Norway, Norway's official study website.

2
Check entry rules

Read the admission page of each programme.

Key Considerations

  • Your bachelor's must be comparable to a Norwegian bachelor's.
  • At the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), if the country list says '+ 1 year university education', you need four years of higher education. If it says nothing, a three-year degree is enough.

Pro Tip

At UiO you need at least 80 ECTS (credits) in the required subject and grades that average at least C on Norway's A to F scale.

3
Take an English test

Your test must not be older than two years on the application deadline.

Key Considerations

  • Upload the result by the application deadline.

Pro Tip

UiO and NTNU ask for IELTS Academic 6.5 in every part (listening, reading, speaking and writing). TOEFL iBT 90 or PTE Academic 62 also work.

4
Gather your papers

Transcripts, degree, school papers, passport, CV (a short paper about your studies and work) and money proof (papers that show you have enough money).

Key Considerations

  • Upload as PDF files.
  • Add a translation made by an approved translator if your papers are not in English or a Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish or Danish).

Pro Tip

For NTNU, if your bachelor's is from Pakistan, send your papers to the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Upload them with the HEC stamp by the documents deadline.

5
Apply online

Apply on the university's website before the deadline.

Key Considerations

  • You can change your NTNU application until the deadline.

Pro Tip

At NTNU there is no submit button. Your application saves itself.

6
Wait for results

NTNU: around the end of February. UiT: by the end of February. UiO: by 5 April.

Key Considerations

  • Accept your offer by the date given.

Pro Tip

Check your email often.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues & Solutions

Most problems come from missing papers or late uploads.

Paper Problems
Problems that can get an application rejected.

Missing papers at the deadline

Most universities do not accept papers after the deadline.

Solution:

Upload everything before the deadline. Missing papers can lead to rejection.

Degree not finished by the deadline

Some universities need your final degree by the deadline.

Solution:

At UiT, finish your degree before 15 November 2026. A certificate that says your degree is still in progress does not count.
